Rockwall Yellowjackets - Heritage GMC Buick in Rockwall, Texas
ROCKWALL — Trevone Boykin ran for 212 yards and accounted for four touchdowns, but it was the defense that came up big late in the fourth quarter, helping West Mesquite hold on for a 32-28 victory over Rockwall at Wilkerson-Sanders Stadium on Thursday night.

Boykin helped to set up a Raashaan Reason burst up the middle from 5 yards out to give West Mesquite, SportsDay’s fourth-ranked Class 4A area team, the advantage with 2:19 left.

Rockwall, which controlled much of the second half with its running game, was thwarted on its ensuing possession as Markeith Thomas intercepted a pass thrown into the middle of the line.

West Mesquite quarterback Boykin ran for three touchdowns and threw for another in the first half, but Rockwall kept him off the field for much of the second half. Josh Broach was the workhorse for Rockwall, carrying the ball 24 times for 109 yards in the second half. He finished with 150 rushing yards.

Rockwall quarterback Alan Reed also had a strong game, running for two touchdowns and throwing for another two.
